My name is Clark Kenyon, and I have been doing interior painting and refinishing, wallpapering, wallpaper removal, drywalling, and surface restoration since 1975 in Iowa City. My son Jonahtan has been working with me parttime since 2007 and full time since 2014. We do not paint exteriors. We do residential jobs only, new construction or redecorating of existing homes. We prefer to work in the Iowa City area, but will travel to work within a 5 mile radius of the city. We do one job at a time until each is finished before moving on to the next. All jobs are bid with a binding contract which spells out in black and white the work to be done, the cost, and the method of payment. Estimates are free, and contracts are mailed promptly after the estimate has been made. Prices are valid for one year from the date of the contract. I comply with all applicable state laws, including being a Registered Contractor with the Iowa Department of Workforce Development, holding an Iowa Retail Sales Permit, and Lead-Safe Renovator Certification. I am fully covered with liability insurance.
If I have worked for you before you may have known me as a paperhanger, but I have always done the related jobs wallpaper removal, wall repair/restoration, and painting. In the last ten years or so, during a period when most of the neighborhood paint stores have stopped selling wallcoverings, the popularity of wallpaper and vinyl seems to have declined. Therefore, most of my work now consists of wallpaper removal and painting (ceilings, walls, and woodwork).
A job that most painters would just as soon not have to deal with is the removal of old wallcovering. This is another area in which we specialize since most realtors specify that old wallcovering be removed and the walls repainted before a house can be shown to potential buyers. We will do wallcovering removal as a standalone job, too. If you want to do your own painting, or hire another painter, I am happy to bid just the removal and cleaning.
We take great pride doing a fast, clean job. One of my foremost goals is to work as unobtrusively as the job will allow, and always to leave the work site as clean as I found it. I understand perfectly how my customers would want a contractor to respect their homes and property. Ask anyone I have ever worked for and they will remember this about me.
