Unsolicited Testimonials for Clark Kenyon Decorating

Dear Clark:

Thank you so very much for the beautiful painting you did in our home. It looks just beautiful. It really changed the looks of our home and we really love it. Thanks also for hanging our stairway prints and for your organization, cleanliness and professionalism.

We love the way you painted the rounded corners and we love how the areas where the small ceilings met the rounded wall. It really accented those parts well.

We are extremely happy with everything from start to finish.

To: Clark Kenyon

I moved into my Iowa City house on May 14th and have enjoyed the selection of color for my walls. Each day I come to appreciate more and more the excellent job that you did, both painting and wall papering. Your work demonstrates in every room how precise and meticulous you are. I have noted that paint is on what paint should be on and not a drop elsewhere on any of the woodwork. I have noted that the wallpaper in each of the bathrooms is so well done that it doesn’t even appear as wall paper.

I have previously experienced the good work of painters but none could match the absolute quality of your workmanship. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate what you added to my home. Since moving in I have had many people speak highly of your name and work. It is a pleasure to hear when someone’s held in such high regard.

Thank you also for two other things. One, taking care of the interruptions of others who came to the house while you were at work. Two, cleaning the debris from the work that was done. I know that I will appreciate these inner walls for a long time.

To the Editor, Des Moines Register:

I thoroughly enjoyed Charles Bullard’s New Year’s Day profile of historian and home decorator Clark Kenyon. But it omitted one fact that, to my mind, casts Mr. Kenyon’s story in a particularly important light. I do not exaggerate in saying that Mr. Kenyon is a legendary hanger of wallpaper in Iowa City. One form of entertainment in the homes of his clients is to try sometimes with a magnifying glass to see if one can spot the seams in his extraordinarily seamless work. For this reason, Mr. Kenyon should not be viewed simply as a potential history professor forced by circumstance into choosing a different line of employment. He should be esteemed as a wonderful decorator who happens to have an unusual academic background.

It is obvious that we would have a wealthier nation, in many ways, if all of us aspired to the level of excellence in our work that Mr. Kenyon achieves. But his story should also remind us that each of us would lead a richer life if we pursued intellectual interests not for the sake of our jobs, but for the nourishment of our souls.

Thanks so much! The house looks fantsic. I appreciate your hard work and trustworthy ability. It was great to be able to leave the house and know it was in good hands. Thanks much.

Dear Clark

John and I appreciate your willingness and flexibility to work the project within our time constraints. It was a pleasure to come downstairs on Sunday morning to new colors, no popcorn on ceilings, plus a warm white on walls of back proch. Thank you for being our "go to painter" for more than a decade.
